Ubisoft is currently preparing an ambitious new episode for the Assassin’s Creed saga. Codename Red is expected for the future fiscal year, i.e. before March 31, 2025. It will take place in Japan.
After Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, a massive episode released in 2020, Ubisoft decided to take a big break with its flagship saga. There was the little parenthesis Assassin’s Creed Mirage in 2023, but we are still waiting to discover that it will really be the sequel, structured around the Infinity project. We just know that the future opus is currently called Assassin’s Creed Codename Red.
In Ubisoft’s latest financial results, published on February 8, Yves Guillemot mentioned this Assassin’s Creed Codename Red. It will a priori be part of the company’s big releases expected for fiscal year 2025, which starts on April 1, 2024 (like Star Wars Outlaws, planned for 2024). This is the only information that Ubisoft has given on the universe ofAssassin’s Creed Codename Red : it will take place in feudal Japan. A dream for many fans of the saga and this era foreshadows an attractive atmosphere. The great strength of Assassin’s Creed lies in the reconstruction and we can’t wait to see what Ubisoft can do with Japan.
Who is the main character in Assassin’s Creed Codename Red?
The main artwork of the game shows us a shinobi, who will a priori be the heroine. But, according to rumors shared by Insider Gaming on November 7, she won’t be alone. We could play two characters in Assassin’s Creed Codename Red : Naoe Fujibayashi, who seeks revenge for the death of his father (Fujibayashi Nagato, leader within the Iga province who really existed), and Yasuke, a samurai of African origin (who really existed, too). At the start of the adventure, Naoe and Yasuke would be enemies (samurai versus ninja), before having to ally in their common desire to unify Japan.

Ubisoft Quebec is responsible for developing Assassin’s Creed Codename Red. It is far from being a novice studio: it has already taken care ofAssassin’s Creed Odyssey (much appreciated by fans) and Assassin’s Creed Syndicate (less appreciated by fans). With CodenameRed, it will evolve the RPG formula started on Origins.
What is Assassin’s Creed Infinity again?
As Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe (which will offer a completely different experience), Assassin’s Creed Codename Red will be part of the Assassin’s Creed Infinity platform.
