Despite the postponement of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Ubisoft is banking more than ever on its flagship license while the remake of the fourth opus is already well advanced.

The return of a legend

Last year, several sources claimed the existence of a remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flaga project led by several Ubisoft studios which was only in its infancy. But recently, new sources have contradicted this information.

So, InsiderGaming would have recently come across new documents which attest to a more advanced development than what had already been mentioned. According to these new sources, this remake of Black Flag is also on excellent track and would have initially been planned for the end of 2025. The media could also have viewed gameplay under Anvil Engine in which it is possible to see Edward Kenway, the protagonist of this opus, on a boat on the open sea.

Change of plan

Still according to Insider Gaming, the game was originally planned for November 2025 and should have accompanied the release of the multiplayer Assassin’s Creed project, codename Invictus. However, the recent postponement of Assassin’s Creed Shadows‘ would have “impacted the roadmap of all Assassin’s Creed games”” as license producer Marc-Alexis Côté would have specified in an email sent to the teams. That being said, it is almost certain that this remake sees sooner than planned, most certainly at the start of 2026. As a reminder, Ubisoft now wants to fully capitalize on its flagship license and offer more than ten Assassin’s Creed titles in five years. In fact, more information should be shared in the future.
