Assassin’s Creed Mirage: a secret ending with unused dialogues discovered, teasing the future of the license?

It’s only been a few days sinceAssassin’s Creed Mirage was released, with a day one 1.0.2 patch correcting certain problems, and despite the fact that it is a game stand alone with more modest content compared to episodes using the formula RPG, he could well continue to be talked about for a while. Already, becauseUbisoft is quick to add paid downloadable content in the form of mainly cosmetic elements and that others seem already plannedbut also for what interests us now, namely content that has not been made accessible to players, but is included in the game data. Be careful, a slight spoiler will be present in the lines to come simply concerning an element linked to Basim known to players who have completed Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

We owe this discovery to Sliderv2who discovered what apparently should have been a post-credit cutscene. It doesn’t look like much and seems not to have been finalized given the floating decorative elements. Aside from a view of the desert, the only thing of interest is a radio tower… Yes, it’s not crazy, but wait, because that’s not all. Secondly, our friend of the day unearthed a dialogue sequence that should have played over this videowhere two characters discuss the memory of Basim which constituted our gaming experience.

The young woman seems to be the one who relived these memories and mentions the fact that she finished her report, stating that she discovered a genetic memory of a Precursor (“Precursor GM”), i.e. that of Loki obviously. The duo have apparently been doing this for three years now and refer to the Isu’s presence as a “Memory Ghost”, in addition to the fact that this memory is a gold mine. So far, nothing to upset us. On the other hand, what comes next is quite confusing.

William Miles is thus designated as one of the last mentors of Assassins before an event called the “Great Shift” which would have taken place during the 21st century. Yes, our era is referred to by these people as ancient history, which they had to learn in mandatory seminars as part of their work. Although we don’t know when this places this conversation, this means that the “present” of Assassin’s Creed Mirage was at least once thought to take place in the distant futurewhere the Templars may have won, but where coffee still exists, it’s a relief!

From there, several questions arise. Is this the direction that the narrative team behind the license wishes to take for the next episodes, by moving the present frame of reference into a very distant futuristic setting? With the platform Infinity which will serve as a hub for future games, this would give even more freedom to the writers while allowing a fresh start. After all,Assassin’s Creed first of the name to Assassin’s Creed III, the narration took place in the “future” compared to the years the games were released, surfing on the end of the world to come in 2012 with a coherent metastory which did not attempt to stick to our flow of real time. This would also make it possible to offer a modern experience that still takes place in theAnimuslike what was proposed Watch Dogs Legion with Darcywhich is unfortunately not considered canon… After all, Infinity should offer very different projects gathered in the same place, it would therefore be ideal and would meet the expectations of part of the community.

Why not include this scene in the end? Will it be reused for example Infinity teaser in the coming months ? Was the idea simply abandoned in favor of something else? Let’s hope that one day we have the answer and above all that the intrigue with Layla leading to the return of Basim in our time is not put aside or relegated to cross-media content as has been Juno in his days…
