Assassin’s Creed Mirage: Ubisoft goes back to basics with this new opus

Ubisoft unveiled the new episode of Assassin’s Creed. Her name ? Mirage. This is an opus that goes back to basics, since it abandons large open worlds and the RPG aspect to focus on a single city: Baghdad.

With Assassin’s Creed Origins in 2017, the saga had taken a 180 degree turn by offering games with a gigantic open world, a very advanced experience and equipment system… For its next opus, Ubisoft has decided to go back to basics by drawing inspiration from the first games in the series. It was presented on Saturday September 10 and is called Assassin’s Creed Mirage.

For now, we don’t have any gameplay images, but Ubisoft has already said a lot about its title. The player will embody Basim Ibn Ishaq there., an assassin seen in Valhalla. The adventure will take place twenty years before the 2020 game and will explain to us how this strange character entered the Order.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage will take place in Baghdad

Mirage will unfold in Baghdad in the 9th century, then epicenter of the Muslim world. Ubisoft abandons the huge playgrounds for a single city that is denser, more detailed and more polished. We’re promised that stealth assassination and parkour, sidelined for years, will make a comeback. The RPG aspect has been removed.

For the moment, Ubisoft has not given a precise release date, but we know that the game will arrive in 2023. It will be available on PC, but also on consoles (Xbox One, Xbox Series, PS4 and PS5). It is already possible to pre-order it to obtain an exclusive quest centered on the legend of the 40 thieves.

Ubisoft didn’t stop at Mirage, as three other Assassin’s Creed games were unveiled at the event, Red, Jade and Hexe. However, the French studio did not go into details. Note that these are not the definitive names, but code names.

Assassin’s Creed Red will be a “classic” game of the franchise and will take place during feudal Japan. A period long requested by fans. Hexe, meanwhile, didn’t give details, but rumors point to a title set during the Renaissance in the Holy Roman Empire and centered on witch hunting.

Finally, Assassin’s Creed Jade will be set in 3rd century China, or during the period of the Three Kingdoms. Its particularity is that it is a mobile game. Ubisoft doesn’t want to make a game on the cheap, but a real AAA in 3D that won’t have to be ashamed of the “classic” episodes, a bit like Blizzard did with Diablo Immortal.
