Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR disappointed Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft will not invest more in virtual reality

Following the presentation of the financial results ofUbisoft, a usual call with investors took place, where Yves Guillemot answered their questions. He notably mentioned the case ofAssassin’s Creed Nexus VRlaunched on Meta Quest 2, Quest 3 And QuestPro last November and which overall met with a very positive reception from the players and critics who were able to play it (read our test). And yet, not a trace of the virtual reality game of Red Storm Entertainment in published documents. This is not surprising, because THE CEO of the publisher said he was disappointed with his commercial performance

As reported VGCthis is what he said when asked if Ubisoft had plans to develop games (software) in VR and what he thinks of the emerging formats that his Meta Quest 3 and theApple Vision Pro.

We were a little disappointed with what we were able to achieve in VR with Assassin’s Creed.

It sold well and continues to do so, but we thought it would sell more, so we are not increasing our investments in virtual reality at the moment, because it needs to take off.

We were very impressed with what Apple came up with (the Vision Pro, Editor’s note) and we think it’s fantastic hardware, but we continue to view this VR business as something we need to look at without investing too much, until it grows sufficiently.

Yes, it’s once again the problem of the snake dying its tail, sinceUbisoft does not wish to invest further in virtual reality and prefers to wait until it develops sufficientlyexcept that it is precisely with productions of the caliber ofAssassin’s Creed Nexus VR that more players will be interested in it. Obviously, this doesn’t mean that the publisher is stopping all investment in the field, but you shouldn’t expect much either. The rumor that a sequel was in the works risks going to pieces…

Additionally, if expectations surrounding this episode VR were higher (probably because it is the flagship license ofUbisoft), perhaps it was necessary not to make it exclusive to headsets Meta ?

If you wish to obtain a Meta Quest 3it is sold from €549.99 on Amazon And to the Fnac. Yes, it’s not cheap.
