Assassin’s Creed Odyssey: the appearance of an ad in the middle of the game annoys players, Ubisoft explains

Let’s forget for a moment the rumors aroundAssassin’s Creed Codename Redthe exit ofAssassin’s Creed Nexus VR or the news ofAssassin’s Creed Mirage to focus on a very unpleasant surprise that affected some players this week. As reported by a user of Redditvideo support, a pop-up appeared in the middle of the game, serving to promote a discount for the Black Friday concerning the adventure of Basim. The clip in question was taken on Assassin’s Creed Odyssey by opening the menu to access the world map, but we were also able to read in the answers thatOrigins was entitled to the same thing. Obviously, upon seeing this, the players clearly did not appreciate it and made their dissatisfaction known on the Web, especially since it is a premium game and not a free-to-play. The problem is that apart from these few seconds, nothing came to prove the veracity of the facts and it could very well have been a montage.

Just got an in-game advertisement when I tried to go to the map

Fortunately, the global director of communications Fabien Darrigues was contacted by The Verge on this subject, giving an answer which firstly confirms the veracity of this video and secondly tried to justify this inconvenience.

We have been informed that some players encountered pop-up advertisements yesterday while playing certain Assassin’s Creed titles. This is the result of a technical error which we corrected as soon as we became aware of the problem.

Well, the technical error has difficulty appearing credible and is especially reminiscent of the experiments ofElectronic Arts in this matter, because it couldn’t have magically appeared there, it was necessary to code such a functionality for a pop-up to appear. That this type of ad and other informative content can be broadcast before loading a game alongside other news related to games in the license is still OK, but let’s hope that this type of “error” does not end up becoming a new normal in the future, as are microtransactions and the like DLC.

Note also that the last update ofAssassin’s Creed Odyssey goes back to December 2021 with the addition of free content Crossed Stories. This means that the publisher is able to introduce this type of advertising without the players’ knowledge, simply by being connected to the Internet.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is currently sold from €39.99 on Amazon, to the Fnac And at the house of Cdiscount.
