Assault on a priest in Nice: what we know about the suspect

A priest was attacked with a knife during a mass at the Saint-Pierre-d’Arène church in Nice (Alpes-Maritimes) this Sunday morning at 10 a.m. The suspect has been arrested and the terrorist track has been dismissed for the time being. Here’s everything we know about the attacker’s profile.

Named Kevin, the perpetrator is of French nationality. Born in Fréjus, in the Var, in 1991, he currently lives in Nice.

The man is not known to the police or intelligence services.

According to a source familiar with the matter, the individual suffers from bipolarity and has made several stays in psychiatry. “He spontaneously told the police that he was of the Jewish faith and that on this election day he wanted to kill Macron and that he had finally fallen back on a church,” added the same source.

For the moment, the terrorist track is not privileged.

An investigation has been opened for attempted murder and intentional violence with a weapon.
