Assaulted with her baby, she cannot file a complaint

Amélie Challéat was attacked by a neighbor while she was with her baby. While she tries, in vain, to file a complaint, she gives a testimony on the aberrant behavior of the police.

“Tuesday, February 10, I was assaulted by a neighbor on my way back from the hospital with my extremely premature baby, fragile, who needs regular check-ups and cannot stay in the cold. A neighbor, elderly man, white, owner, rich, could not stand that I leave the car 5 minutes in front of the door of the building to bring my baby in a stroller in the building by -5 ° C and snow everywhere". It is with these words that Amélie Challéat begins her story, unveiled on Instagram. The young mother was verbally and physically attacked, as evidenced by her swollen face. And yet, she can not file a complaint.

While his neighbor has him "yelled at", Amélie Challéat tried to calm the situation. "I told her to leave us alone, that we had it for a few minutes, that we were coming back from the hospital, that I had learned of my mother's death the day before. I kept walking forward to go home. I", she recalls. Except that her attacker continued, going from verbal abuse to physical abuse: "This man wanted to stop me from going home with my baby and hit me in the face. He punched his fist, with all his might, in my face as I held my baby's stroller. I fell. on the ground and I lost consciousness for a brief moment. Hamza (her partner, editor's note) defended me as best he could. The police arrived ", she says. Her companion goes to the police station with the attacker, while she herself returns to her apartment, her baby being "too weak" to get to a police station.

A story already distressing because of the behavior of her neighbor, which gets worse when Amélie Challéat tells about her obstacle course to file a complaint. Since the facts, she tries to make an appointment to testify "so as not to wait for 4 hours at the Goutte d'Or police station, with (his) daughter, too fragile to bear it". On Saturday she was told she couldn't get an appointment. "Today we are in 2021, a woman with her sick baby, can be hit, and cannot file a complaint. Instead, the police advised Hamza to" find an agreement between neighbors ". Is the fight against violence against women is still a national cause? ", asks the young mother, angry for totally legitimate reasons.

Saturday evening, while Amélie Challéat's testimony was widely shared on social networks and many political and government figures were arrested, Marlène Schiappa reacted. "I was alerted to this post at the beginning of the afternoon, my team immediately contacted the young mother. The prefecture is mobilized at my request and will receive Amélie, if she wishes, from tomorrow", said the Minister for Citizenship on Twitter. The young mother said in her Instagram stories that she managed to get an appointment on Monday to finally be able to file her complaint.
