Assises du Travail: Dussopt attacks the “cliché according to which young people no longer want to work”

The Minister of Labor highlights “the capacity for initiative, autonomy in work” of young workers.

Transformations in the relationship to workare many“, estimated Friday Olivier Dussopt at the opening of the Assises du Travail in Paris, but they”must not let us succumb to the cliché that the younger generations no longer want to work“. “A large majority of them wish to work simply in sum (…) The great resignation or great laziness supposed of the French is a cliche. The right to laziness is a provocation (…) Work remains an essential value of our society“said the Minister of Labor.

The Assises du Travail were launched on Friday at the National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts as part of the National Council for Refoundation (CNR). Three themes are on the program and are the subject of round tables: relationships at work, health and quality of life at work and finally democracy at work. For each of these themes,a referent will lead the work (…) Events will also be organized in the territories“, added the minister who sets himself”the objective is to formalize these proposals by the end of February“. They may take the form oflegislative provisions, negotiations or consultations, evaluation work, but also guides to good practice“. On the relationship to work, Mr. Dussopt underlined that “we have now moved away from the classic model of the single employer. The question of career paths and the notion of employment must be questioned“.

The implementation of new levers

Certain characteristics of work are particularly valued today“, he said. “The capacity for initiative, autonomy in the work carried out are increasingly mentioned by employees as meaningful, far from the historical models linked to standardization.“, he admitted. “The other major challenge is that of reconciling personal and professional life.“. In addition to the use of teleworking, “other levers could be put in place to facilitate this reconciliation, particularly at the organizational or managerial level“, he estimated.

For the secretary general of the National Council for Refoundation, François Bayrou, faced with recruitment difficulties, if it is necessary “overcome this first feeling about young people who no longer want to work“, however, it is necessary “understand why the balance between work and fulfillment is no longer there as (for) the previous age groups“.
