Alain Chabat made a nice gift to fans of “Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra” in the show Beau geste presented by Pierre Lescure. He unveiled the full version of the cult monologue by Edouard Baer alias the scribe Otis.
Directed by Alain Chabat with a budget of nearly 50 million euros, bringing together a top-notch cast (Gérard Depardieu, Christian Clavier, Monica Bellucci, Jamel Debbouze, Gérard Darmon, Edouard Baer, Chantal Lauby…), Asterix & Obelix: Mission Cleopatra is seen in theaters by more than 14 million viewers.
A triumph. The sets are pharaonic, the humor of Chabat hits the mark, the cult scenes follow one another and the public is beyond conquered. No wonder the film ranks among the best French comedies to date. And, that’s good, the film is about to hitting theaters on July 5 in a restored copy in 4k. A nice catch-up session for those who haven’t seen it in the room.
This Sunday, May 21, in the show Nice gesture, devoted to cinema and presented by Pierre Lescure, Alain Chabat made a great gift to the public. He unveiled in full (and therefore not the cut version retained in the final cut) the now famous, brilliantly funny monologue by Edouard Baer, alias the scribe Otis.
“It was an improv” had revealed the actor at the Large Screen site in 2005in an interview. “At first the producers prayed to him [NDR : Chabat] to cut this scene. Incomprehensible and too long according to them. And after several years, this is the moment that I am most talked about. I happen to come across young people who have literally learned it by heart. Quite simply, because Chabat, like Chabrol, has confidence in its taste”.
