Aston Martin has just confirmed the arrival of its first electric model, a sports coupe which should replace the current DB11.
If the electric was still a little marginal motorization a few years ago, things have changed in a very short time, while the public authorities are doing everything so that the electric replaces the heat engines. So much so that it will soon be the only solution, while internal combustion vehicles will be banned from marketing in Europe by 2035.
If the generalist brands are already numerous to have taken the plunge and to offer one, or even several 100% electric models, the more upscale manufacturers are also starting to get started very slowly. We are thinking in particular of Ferrari, which plans to launch its first zero-emission model in 2025, or of Aston Martin, which also wishes to offer connected vehicles in the coming years.
A first electric model in 2025
If the firm of Gaydon had not until then given many details on its ambitions for the future, the presentation of its vast Aston Martin Racing Green plan gives us new interesting information. In a press release, the British manufacturer details its projects, announcing in particular that its first plug-in hybrid model, the Valhalla, will arrive in 2024. It will then be necessary to wait until 2025 to see the arrival of the first 100% electric car.
This should replace the DB11, and will undoubtedly take the form of a sports coupe. No additional information about him has been given, but Tobias Moers, the current boss of Aston Martin underlines that the mark will work in collaboration with Mercedes. Will this newcomer inherit the platform and engines of the EQS? This cannot be ruled out, quite the contrary.
Greener ambitions
The British firm is taking the opportunity to confirm that its entire range will become 100% electric from 2030. In addition, it is announcing the use of new, more durable materials for its next productions, such as an aluminum alloy whose manufacturing uses only renewable energy. Vegan interiors without leather will also be offered in the catalog for customers who wish.
Aston Martin is also announcing that all of its assembly and logistics operations will be zero-emissions by 2039. This will involve numerous measures, including the installation of solar panels on the roof of the St Athan or the elimination of plastic waste.
