(CercleFinance.com) – AstraZeneca announces that its Covid vaccine, Vaxzevria, has obtained full marketing authorization (MA) in the European Union (EU) from the European Medicines Agency (EMA). ) after the EMA’s Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) issued a positive recommendation for full MA.
Until then, the vaccine benefited from a conditional MA, granted because of the pandemic emergency.
‘The move from conditional to full marketing authorization is an important confirmation by the EMA of the safety and efficacy of Vaxzevria, demonstrating that the continued benefits outweigh the potential risks’, reacts Iskra Reic, executive vice president of Vaccines and Immune Therapies at AstraZeneca.
The official estimates that Vaxzevria helped save more than six million lives in the first year of vaccination.
