The ROG Matrix RTX 4090 is one of the first graphics cards to make use of liquid metal, but no risk of short circuit. Promised.

For the past few days, ASUS has been taking advantage of social networks to titillate “high power” enthusiasts by mentioning the upcoming release of its “ flagship in the graphics card world.

Watercooling and liquid metal

Inevitably, there could be no question of a completely new card insofar as neither AMD nor NVIDIA have a new GPU on their roadmap.

ASUS has therefore “simply” decided to refine the design of its most powerful graphics card – a GeForce RTX 4090 model – in order to provide it with a cooling system, so to speak, unique. Called the ROG Matrix RTX 4090, the card is effectively the first ROG Matrix since the release of an old RTX 2080 Ti.

That said, even if you’re an insider and the name ROG Matrix RTX 2080 Ti rings a bell, it’s not going to help you know what it’s all about: ASUS has completely revised its concept.

Less than 60°C @ 450 watts?

The switch to the RTX 4090 is indeed an opportunity to rethink the cooling solution of this ROG Matrix to convert it to watercooling with an all-in-one system as we find more and more often.

The ROG Matrix is therefore accompanied by a 360 millimeter radiator, which is surmounted by three ROG MF-12S ARGB fans in order to keep the GPU below 60 ° C even when the TGP reaches 450 watts according to ASUS. Even more original, the ROG Matrix is one of the very first cards to use liquid metal to ensure contact between the GPU die and the heatsink.

Such a device is obviously very risky insofar as the liquid metal conducts both heat… and electricity! It is therefore necessary to ensure an exemplary assembly to avoid any short circuit. Of course, for good measure, ASUS assures that the video memory and VRM section are as well cooled as the GPU.

On the other hand, ASUS does not give any price for the time being, but specifies that the ROG Matrix RTX 4090 Ti should be released during the third quarter of 2023. We are betting on more than 2,500 euros. Do we take bets?
