With the NUC Extreme, ASUS would have been faced with direct competition between two of its ranges of mini PC.

Still available from certain resellers, Intel’s NUC Extreme constitutes the most powerful version of these mini-PCs that the American brand had tried to impose.

Since the handover between Intel and ASUS, the question of this somewhat particular range has been raised, the Taiwanese company having not communicated at all about it. We know more…

The NUC Extreme: “big mini-PCs”

Launched in 2013 by Intel, NUCs are very small PCs whose ability to fit anywhere should ensure their success. Very quickly, however, Intel had the idea of boosting this range with the NUC Extreme.

A little in contradiction with the basic concept, these “extreme” models integrate a very muscular processor and dedicated graphics solution for performances that have nothing to envy of machines with slightly more traditional dimensions.

The other side of the coin is that the NUC Extremes also tend to heat up quite a bit and their cooling system, having a lot to do, is clearly not the most discreet that can be found while the volume of the PCs increases quite a bit on this range.

Competition from ROG Strix

A few months ago, ASUS confirmed the resumption of the NUC range that Intel had decided to abandon. At CES 2024 in Las Vegas, the Taiwanese company confirmed the return of the NUCs.

Various models are planned, including one very inspired by Intel’s Serpent Canyon with an already beefy processor and a real dedicated graphics card, but “only” of the GeForce RTX 4060 and RTX 4070 type. This announcement opened the way to various comments and several observers then felt that ASUS was giving up on the NUC Extreme.

Relayed by our colleagues from VideoCardz, the words of an ASUS spokesperson go in this direction: there will be no question of any NUC model of 7.5 liters of volume. It must be said that such a product would compete with the ROG Strix PCs already in the ASUS catalog… but now, it is confirmed.
