Tested by us at the end of last year, the motherboard Asus’ high-end ROG Maximus Z690 is the subject of a major recall procedure. 10,000 models sold before December 2021 are affected.
You have an ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 motherboard, and you bought it for your Intel 12 processore generation before December 2021? You may then be asked to have it exchanged as soon as possible.
A capacitor problem
So far, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has indeed reported a dozen major overheating cases that led to the melting of this high-end graphics card model. The commission indicates that no injuries are to be deplored but does not specify whether these beginnings of combustion led to material damage. As specified The Vergethe problem would come from a capacitor mounted backwards on models sold by ASUS before December 2021.
This assembly defect – which seems to have since been corrected, since the ROG Maximus Z690 is still on sale – was reported last January by a YouTuber. ASUS and the CPSC, however, only started the process of recalling the affected series now, seven months later.
10,000 motherboards affected by the recall
Anyway, about 10,000 motherboards are affected according to the CPSC. These models have serial numbers starting with MA, MB and MC. To find your motherboard’s serial number, just look on the label next to the 24-pin ATX power connector, or take a look at your unit’s box if you still have it.
Asus gives more details on the procedure to follow via a page dedicated to the recall. In particular, you can enter the serial number of your card to find out if it is concerned.
