Asus presents two new laptops for gamers. ROG Flowx X16 and ROG Strix Scar 17 Special Edition. Both equipped with premium configurations, but not with the same heart, they will be available in France during the third quarter of 2022. Their price does not start below 3000 euros. Presentations.

Asus is increasing its launches in May 2022. Last week, we reported in our columns the launch of two Zenbooks: the Zenbook Pro 14 Duo OLED and Zenbook Pro X16 OLED. Both of these laptops are aimed at creatives who also like to game on the PC (or vice versa). Their price: 2099 euros and 2999 euros, respectively. They were accompanied by a handful of other models of Zenbook whose amounts varied from 1500 euros to 2100 euros approximately.

A week later, Asus puts the cover back. But this time, it is no longer the Zenbooks that interest us, but the ROGs. And more particularly the ranges Flow and Strix. The Taiwanese brand lifts the veil on two 300% gaming laptops. One is a no-holds-barred convertible. The other is a gaming PC with a crazy configuration. And we will of course go into detail in this article.

ROG Flow X16: a convertible laptop for gaming with an external graphics card

Starting with the ROG Flow X16. Its name already reveals some information to you. ROG: gamer positioning. Flow: thin, light and “adaptable” chassis. X: convertible into a “tablet” thanks to a hinge that rotates 360 degrees (unlike the Z whose screen detaches to become a tablet). And 16 for 16 inches, of course. The X16 is of course the big brother of the recently updated X13. It benefits from an ultra-thin chassis (19 mm) and a cooling system based on liquid metal and a set of three fans.

On the technical sheet side, we find a slab 16 inch in IPS as standard (or mini-LED as an option) with Quad HD definition. 165Hz, DCI-P3, Adaptive Sync and Dolby Vision compatible. Inside the chassis, a processor AMD Ryzen 9a GeForce 3070 Ti with 8 GB of GDDR6, up to 64 GB of RAM (DDR5 format at 4800 MHz), up to 2 TB of storage, 4 Dolby Atmos certified speakers, WiFi 6E, a 90 Wh battery and a chiclet keyboard backlit.

Note that the Flow X16 is compatible with XG Mobile external graphics cards to bring a considerable power gain. ROG Flowx X16 pricing starts at 3199 euros. It will be available in the third quarter of 2022 only, without further details.

ROG Strix Scar 17: a special edition decorated with invisible ink

Let’s move on to the Strix Scar 17 Special Edition (or SE). Here we find a standard-looking gaming laptop. And yet! Asus claims that this laptop is the most powerful in the world. Performance that would be, according to the Taiwanese manufacturer, close to that of a desktop PC. This is not trivial. And this promises a very voluminous feed.

Another interesting element of this Scar, the decorative elements of the chassis. Besides the usual customizable LEDs and Armor Caps, Asus has decorated the ROG Strix Scar 17 SE with a invisible ink which is revealed under a UV lamp. Asus has entered a code that allows access to a game, Scar Runner. Asus announces that it has worked for more than six months on this ink, so that it does not fade over time.

Let’s look under the hood: processor Core i9-12950HXGPUs GeForce RTX 3080 Ti with 16 GB of GDDR6 (highest configuration), up to 64 GB of DDR5 4800 MHz, 4 TB of storage, a 17.3-inch Full HD (or Quad HD) Dolby Vision certified panel, chiclet backlit keyboard, four Dolby Atmos certified speakers and a 90 Wh panel. Like the Flow X16, the Strix Scar 17 will be available in Q3 2022. Its starting price will be 3399 euro.
