Asus ZenScreen Fold: the portable OLED monitor that folds in half

At first glance, the new 17-inch OLED screen that Asus just revealed at CES doesn’t really attract attention. But you just have to fold it in half for the situation to change!

Designed for on-the-go productivity, the ZenScreen Fold is the world’s first foldable portable OLED display, according to Asus.

Less than 1.37 kg

The screen has a built-in stand and works in portrait or landscape mode. It can be placed on top of a laptop or tablet as a second display, and functions as a large 4:3 display that expands your workspace without scrolling, or as two 16:9 displays stuck side by side .

The display weighs less than 1.37kg and measures less than 12.5” when folded, meaning it can easily be carried in a bag.

And will the price then also be halved?

This device is schematically the screen part of the Zenbook Fold presented at CES 2022. Like this Zenbook Fold, its fold in the middle is designed to be as little visible as possible. Having no on-board computing power or processing capacity of its own, the ZenScreen Fold should be significantly cheaper, the Zenbook laptop having cost €4,000 at its launch.

Its price will likely remain high for a portable monitor. But you get a significantly larger screen and greater portability. And since it’s an OLED, you also get a much better quality image that performs well in bright environments. It offers 2560 x 1920 resolution, 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space, and DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification, meaning you’ll get rich colors whether you’re designing graphics, scrolling social media or watching content.

It also has two USB-C ports, a Mini HDMI port, a headphone jack, and tripod stand space.

Asus hasn’t revealed an exact price or release date, but it’s expected around the start of the second quarter of this year.
