At 105, this woman has won an unexpected battle …

At the Parmelan Foundation in Annecy, we party before Christmas! It must be said that one of the residents made the staff shudder, as much as his family. But let's go back to the story of Léa, who has just celebrated her 105th birthday.

A centenarian affected by Covid 19

Léa Lavy is an old lady more than a hundred years old, who recently left the family home, which saw her four children grow up, to go and live peacefully in an nursing home in Annecy, in Haute-Savoie.
A few weeks ago, when clearly a second epidemic wave of Covid 19 was raging, the establishment in Annecy had its residents tested. Our dear Léa also goes there, and, to everyone's amazement, while she shows no major symptoms, the test is positive.

The entourage, very worried, and for good reason!

The concern about Madame Lavy is great, especially with her son Roger, himself aged 75: it must be said that this little lady with a lively look, is neither more nor less than the dean of the nursing home, aged then 104 years old. She knows she is solid, she keeps confidence, she who has not been ill for a hundred years, she told the Dauphiné Liberated *. But those close to him have been bloody blood, especially when his son receives this call from the nursing home welcoming his mother. He tells the Parisian **: " A nurse told me that my mother was positive for Covid. And she made me realize that at her age that was probably the end of it. That everything would be done so that my mother left in good conditions, with sedation. And that I could exceptionally say goodbye to him, even though we were in lockdown and no visitors were allowed. " After such a phone call, there is indeed something to be concerned about and worry about …

Hope is reborn

But very quickly, the director of the facility for the elderly, Stéphane Richard, was more reassuring. He specifies in the media that Léa was a little more tired than reason for a few days, that she certainly had a little fever, but that she did not suffer from it herself, not feeling particularly sick. In fact, his son Roger indicates that during his first visit to his sick mother, he felt less worried, seeing the old lady quite combative.

However, it should be remembered that it is the population over 80 who has paid the heaviest price for this epidemic since March 2020 ***, both in number of deaths and in number of hospitalizations. And just at the Parmelan Foundation, the nursing home where Léa Lavy lives, these are"109 of [our] 185 residents [who] had it – nearly 60% – and we deplored 33 deaths", indicates the director. In fact, 30% of the staff were also affected.

A real Christmas story!

Recently, at Léa's nursing home, it was a party to celebrate her 105 years and to express the joy that this little lady did so well! His secret? When asked, she admits doing some gymnastic movements on a daily basis, too little for her liking if you listen to her, then she adds that the key to her longevity would be after all perhaps in … chocolate!

So you see what you have to do: wear your mask well during the holidays, keep your distance and eat chocolate of course!
