The list of medical errors now grows with the case of 15-year-old Ryad. On New Year’s Eve, he and his mother go to the polyclinic of Bezannes near Reims when the young man suffers from a leg injury. It is actually a double fracture but the teenager leaves the clinic with a simple temporary cast and painkillers. The doctors, who plan to operate on the boy the next day, ask that Ryad remain on an empty stomach as per protocol.

“Except the next morning, no call, nothing”says Ryad’s mother at the microphone of our colleagues from BFM TV. “I call them back and they tell me that there is no one with that name and that a priori, there is no block planned.” Noting the state of her son which is deteriorating, the mother then decides to take him to another establishment, the CHU of Reims. Three days have passed since the placement of the temporary cast. The doctors who examine Ryad this time immediately note the seriousness of the situation by opening the plaster of the young man.
“They open the plaster, and see a skin that has macerated for three days: blisters, pus, blood”explains the mother of Ryad to our colleagues from BFM TV. The young man’s wound actually became infected under the cast. Result: the young Ryad risks having his leg amputated because of this medical error. A shock for the mother of the young man who is now waiting for explanations from the polyclinic. Aware that there are few or no doctors available on New Year’s Eve, the mother of the family remains in awe of the seriousness of the events. “What didn’t you take the time to do? Or bother to do?”, she asks into the microphone BFM TV. “Okay, there are no doctors, okay it’s New Year’s Day, but at least tell me.”
