Information that confirms the brake constituted by the additional cost of the AM5 platform as a whole.

Last September, AMD launched its new generation of processors, the Ryzen 7000 and their Zen 4 architecture. The objective was to level up with Intel on the technology side and, why not, to overtake its competitor on the performance side. .

The additional cost of the AM5 pointed out

Unfortunately for AMD, if the contract is perfectly fulfilled on the technological and performance aspects, the Ryzen 7000 range does not seem to have been able to convince users.

This lack of interest is significant enough for AMD to feel obliged to review its pricing policy and significantly lower the price of its processors less than two months after their release. Problem, in the absence of official data provided by the company, it is difficult for us to measure the extent of the commercial failure that can however be attributed to the additional cost caused by the AM5 platform.

4.2 times more than 5600X sold daily

Of course, this is just a reseller for one country only. However, the volumes managed by the company Mindfactory located in Germany make it possible to quantify the problem a little more.

Indeed, the latter compared the daily sales of the Ryzen 7000 series to those of the previous generation, the 5000 series. The result leaves little room for doubt: in the case of the 7900X, the daily sales are 3 times lower than those of the 5900X, and we are even talking about 4.2 times lower than those of the previous model (5600X) in the case of the 7600X.

It is however interesting to note that the Ryzen 7950X, a very high-end model, behaves a little better than the 5950X. Same thing for the 7700X vs the 5700X, but the latter had been launched out of step.

Given the much larger difference observed on the 5600X and 7600X, it seems that the additional cost of the AM5 platform (price of motherboards, price of DDR5) is largely responsible for the lackluster success of the new generation AMD. What solution to change things?
