At last ! Microsoft will give Skype a well-deserved facelift

Skype seemed to have been abandoned by Microsoft for a few years, especially since the expansion of Teams. However, the famous instant messaging app will finally undergo an unexpected makeover.

In the middle of summer, Skype welcomed instant reactions. A few weeks later, the Redmond company has just announced the complete overhaul of its application.

Skype: a completely redesigned experience

The American firm finally seems decided not to leave Skype on the floor. Five years after carrying out an initial renovation of its application, which unfortunately did not restore its former appeal, Microsoft has just announced the arrival of a new version of Skype which promises more “enjoyable” and more “fun” experience.

On December 14, the American company published a long blog post in which it presented in detail all the new features expected for Skype. If the application will retain the features that have forged its success, it intends to tint the experience with a touch of modernity. The giant announces a completely redesigned customizable interface, animated emoticons, better performance and various bug fixes. In short, a more complete, more ergonomic and entertaining version of Skype thanks to the many customization elements. Did you expect more? Well Skype still has a few surprises in store for us.

A messaging application… but not only?

One of the main novelties of Skype concerns the arrival of a new section devoted to… news. Yes, you read that right, Microsoft’s instant messaging application will soon be able to read articles from a soberly called “Today” tab. Like Google News, Skype will compile personalized articles for you from trusted sources around the world. What to bring a little freshness to this application on the decline for a few years now? Maybe.

The Redmond firm tells us that it will not be necessary to have a subscription to be able to take advantage of this feature. In addition, it will also be possible to share articles with contacts directly from Skype, by SMS, or from any other application. Finally, note that sharing your profile will be easier than ever thanks to the integration of a QR code to scan and/or share with your future contacts. For their part, calls will be equipped with a real-time translation feature thanks to artificial intelligence. To do this, the audio translation in the other language will sound like your own voiceannounces Microsoft.

Anyway, here’s a redesign that has the merit of offering an experience placed under the sign of modernity, and which, hopefully, will attract the attention of those who have since migrated to Microsoft Teams…
