DACCA, September 25 (Reuters) – At least 25 people have died and around 20 others are missing after a ferry carrying Hindu pilgrims sank in Bangladesh on Sunday, an official in the Panchagarh region, where he accident happened in the north of the country.
According to survivors, more than 70 people boarded the ferry for a pilgrimage to a Hindu temple, the official, Jahurul Islam, said.
Ferry accidents are common in Bangladesh, a country crossed by many rivers and prone to flooding, but the country had not experienced such a deadly tragedy for a year and a half. (Report by Ruma Paul, French version Tangi Salan)
