Warm temperatures, rain and thunderstorms: The holiday weekend could be uncomfortable at times.

There is no boredom at Pentecost. At least not when it comes to the weather, say the meteorologists in Switzerland. SRF Meteo expects thunderstorms, especially on Pentecost Sunday. It’s supposed to hail, storm and rain. The Federal Office for Meteorology and Climatology even speaks of a “lucky bag”.
The weather and Pentecost is such a thing. Because the Christian holidays do not always fall on the same date. The period varies from mid-May to mid-June.
According to the very different dates, the Whitsun weather has shown different faces in the past. The floods of 1999 will certainly be remembered. The damage at the time amounted to several hundred million Swiss francs.
Between hot temperatures and hail
On this Saturday, however, it should remain mostly nice. According to Meteo News, the reason for this is a high over the Mediterranean region, which brings very warm air into Switzerland. The weather is therefore generally quite sunny and summery warm to hot throughout Switzerland. In the south and west, the heat mark of 30 degrees is within the realm of possibility, according to Meteo News. In Valais there are just over 30 degrees locally.
In the afternoon the first storm clouds are already gathering. At least over the Alps. According to the meteorologists, there is little reason to worry in the lowlands. Local rain and thunderstorms are to be expected here.

It already looks different on Sunday night. Then the thunderstorm activity will increase massively. The temperatures remain warm like summer. In the course of the day, heavy showers and thunderstorms including hail and squalls can be expected throughout Switzerland.
Things continue to change on Whit Monday. Meteo News predicts a mix of sun and clouds here. In the afternoon showers and thunderstorms are expected in certain areas.
If you want to lie in the pool and sunbathe all holiday long, you have to travel across national borders and to the Mediterranean, for better or for worse. Especially in the central and eastern area it is supposed to be hot, and with plenty of sunshine.
