This weekend may be decisive for the French lefts. The congress of the French Communist Party (PCF) opened its doors this Friday and is held throughout the weekend. And if Fabien Roussel, current leader of the PCF, is certain to be re-elected national secretary of the party, the communist leader has actually set another objective: to make his party the link of the left.
Strong criticism of the Nupes
Because the deputy from the North wants to bring together the entire left-wing French political landscape, from former Socialist Prime Minister Bernard Cazeneuve to La France insoumise. Fabien Roussel does not hesitate to qualify the Nupes – the Alliance which brings together the socialists, the rebellious, the ecologists and the communists in the National Assembly, as “outdated”.
Remarks which aroused strong criticism from the Insoumis, and in particular from Manuel Bompard, coordinator of the party, who called on the communist militants to position themselves on the strategy of their leader. A declaration which did not leave Fabien Roussel unmoved this Friday, during the opening of the congress.
“Mind your own business”
“To those who have allowed themselves in recent hours to speak directly to members of the French Communist Party to interfere with our congress, our choices, our strategy, I say it clearly: mind your own business! Nobody will dictate to the Communists what they must vote, think, do or choose”, he declared in front of the members present.
There is no doubt that at the end of the congress, Fabien Roussel will insist on his score to justify this new turn, he who nourishes the hope of making the Communist Party a more influential force within Nupes.
