Monica Lierhaus (50) is this year's patron of the toy collection campaign for children in need in Hamburg and for children from refugee families. On Friday she gave the go-ahead for the charity campaign, which is organized by the Hamburg city cleaning service, among others.

"At the start of the 15th Hamburg toy collection, presenter Monica Lierhaus presented the first donation at the Liebigstrasse recycling center today. From now on you can easily donate new or rejected toys to children in need," says their Instagram page with a reference to the recycling centers and used department stores in Altona and Wandsbek. In two photos Lierhaus can be seen in the midst of the colorful donations.

"My family gives me strength"

Monica Lierhaus knows what it means to be dependent on help, as she explains in an interview with RTL on site: "I am much more dependent on help today than I used to be. I have virtually lost my independence. And that was the most important thing for me to be independent, "says Lierhaus.

In 2009 the TV presenter was diagnosed with an aneurysm while preparing for an eye operation. There were complications with the removal, Lierhaus had to be put into an artificial coma for months. Then she fought her way back to life and was in front of the camera again.

In the interview, however, she said: "I would probably not do this operation again with what I know today. And I don't think anyone can blame me for that." When asked, she adds: "Because life has not changed in a particularly beneficial way for me." But when it comes to one topic, she shines: "My family gives me strength. And my dog ​​Paulina. Things give me strength," says Monica Lierhaus.
