At the European Championship race – Neubauer: “Boys rode like hell”

Rally driver Hermann Neubauer returned to the international stage in Gran Canaria. In the face of strong international competition, the Lungau resident sometimes found it difficult.

It took seven years before rally driver Hermann Neubauer ventured back into the European Championship. At the Rally Islas Canarias in Spain, the Lungauer started with co-driver Bernhard Ettel on Thursday and ultimately finished the European Championship race in 19th position, just under three minutes behind. For the 35-year-old, however, the 13 special stages were “a joy driving” is in the foreground, as he always emphasized. The lead foot knew in advance that it wouldn’t be easy. He was nevertheless impressed by the level of international competition: “The guys in front of me drove like hell.” His best special test was the penultimate one, where he finished twelfth. Skoda teammate Simon Wagner (Upper Austria) finished tenth, victory went to Yoann Bonato (Fra).
