To reduce the pain of patients during an operation, the Lille hospital center and the start-up MDoloris have succeeded in setting up an automatic anesthesia dispenser: the right dose of medicine is sent during the surgical act of the tailor-made . A small revolution that Europe 1 explains to you.
A feat in the medical field. A computer, set up by the University Hospital of Lille and the start-up MDoloris, analyzes in real time the pain felt by the patient thanks to the measurement of his blood pressure. This process, seen as revolutionary, is a world first. During surgery, some procedures are more painful than others. Innovation makes it possible to better adapt the necessary doses of anesthesia delivered.
The right dose, at the right time
“When you have a surgeon who causes a lot of pain in the body, it’s good to have a device that administers a high dose. And on the other hand, some time during the surgery, it’s much less painful. And at that time, it’s good not to administer a drug that the body does not need”, explains Mathieu Jeanne, head of the anesthesia and resuscitation department, at the burn treatment center at the Lille University Hospital. .
“The automatic device does it without making mistakes, where the anesthetist really requires constant vigilance,” he adds. This new tool in the operating room will allow the anesthesiologist to concentrate on other tasks, such as monitoring the patient’s vital signs, for example. The innovation will hit the market in late 2024 or early 2025.
