Bruno Le Maire, the Minister of the Economy, came to wander the aisles of the Salon de l’Agriculture this Tuesday. He notably called on the sector to open up to the outside world, aiming, without naming it, at the National Rally, while emphasizing the importance of exports.

Don’t give up on exports. Here is one of the messages that Bruno Le Maire wanted to convey this Monday, during his visit to the Salon de l’Agriculture. The Minister of the Economy walked the aisles of the Porte de Versailles, two days after the rowdy trip of Emmanuel Macron and the day after that of Jordan Bardella, who was received more warmly. Without naming him, Bruno Le Maire directly scratched the National Rally, assuring, at the microphone of Europe 1, that “all those who advocate the isolation of France, the withdrawal into oneself, are killing French agriculture and offer no perspective for French peasants”.

Bruno Le Maire thus calls for “stop talking nonsense on the subject of international trade” and emphasizes the importance of exports. “What will French viticulture do if it cannot export? Cognac producers, who are today worried about the possibility of retaliatory measures from China, what will they do if they cannot export,” asks the minister who also takes the example of beef. “If they (producers) can no longer export to North Africa or Turkey, how will they live?”

“The future of French agriculture also depends on exports”

“Let’s stop talking nonsense while playing on the anger of farmers,” declared the Minister of the Economy. And to conclude: “The future of French agriculture also involves exporting and promoting our products on foreign markets.”

Bruno Le Maire also took the opportunity to call on banks and insurance companies to “make more ambitious proposals so that our farmers can have easier access to credit, at rates that are as attractive as possible”. This support for farm cash flow also provides for the provision from July 1 of a State guarantee of two billion euros for loans taken out by farmers.
