Guilty of having publicly questioned the diagnosis of Elon Musk on the Android version of Twitter, a social network engineer was thanked in stride. He is not the only one to suffer the wrath of the new owner of the blue bird.

Nothing is going well in the Twitter house, where layoffs are on the increase and where decisions, sometimes contradictory, are linked with unfortunate consequences for certain economic players, trapped by the new certification function. Eric Frohnhoefer, Android developer for more than 6 years for Twitter, was fired for having contradicted Elon Musk on the slowness of the application on the OS of Google.

When privacy overflows on Twitter

Elon Musk and Eric Frohnhoefer have both succeeded in illustrating, in the space of a few tweets, the harmful side of social networks, which allow hundreds of thousands of users to attend the settling of professional accounts, until the total break. A bit like the scandalous trials broadcast live on television in Anglo-Saxon countries.

At first, Elon Musk criticized the slowness of the Twitter application on Android in many countries around the world, citing the 2 second refresh in the United States and the 20 seconds needed in India.

Android developer at Twitter for 6 years, Eric Frohnhoefer had the misfortune to respond, directly on the social network, to the one who has just laid off half of the employees of the Californian group. For him, the arguments drawn by Elon Musk to justify the slowness of the Android version are ” fake “, to which the billionaire replied: “ Twitter is super slow on Android. What did you do to solve this problem? »

A surreal exchange, layoffs on the fly and a deleterious internal atmosphere

The exchange then continued between the two men on different threads, in plain sight. Eric Frohnhoefer justified the slowness of the application by too many features, some of which are never used by mobile users.

A tweeter then replied to him, telling him that he should perhaps have informed his new boss of these various concerns in private, and not on Twitter. ” Maybe he should ask questions in private “, then replied the developer. ” Maybe using Slack, or via email “.

Soon after, Musk said he had just thanked Frohnhoefer. The technician relayed, still on Twitter, the locked screen of his Mac as a separation: “ I guess now it’s official “, he added, referring directly to his dismissal.

A little later, the new boss of Twitter confirmed in another tweet that he wanted to end the mention of the device from which a message was written on the platform, citing a “ waste of screen and compute space “.

Two other Twitter engineers, Sasha Solomon and Ben Leib, were also fired after contributing to the discussions and supporting the position of their now ex-colleague Eric Frohnhoefer. This “on the fly” purge of Elon Musk today leads to ” no one trusts anyone anymore within the company, as Frohnhoefer points out.
