At world games – special honor for Salzburg karate ace

Alisa Buchinger will lead Team Austria as the flag bearer at the opening ceremony of her second participation in the World Games on July 7th in Birmingham (USA).

“It is a special honor to be able to carry the flag for Austria. I am also happy that I can present my karate sport in the international limelight. I’m very excited to see what’s in store for me at the opening ceremony in Birmingham,” says the Salzburg Army athlete. The start of the event will take place on July 7th in the new Protective Life Stadium, which will hold 40,000 spectators that evening. To the World Games in Wroclaw, Poland in 2017, the 29-year-old kumite karateka definitely has the best memories: “It was one of my best years and a real highlight to win silver at the World Games after my world title. It couldn’t have been better because I had won a medal at all major events with it. I hope that this time I can travel home with a medal in my luggage again. I will give everything again for that.” In the weight class up to 68 kilograms, the World Games in the USA (Alabama) will be something like the grand finale of a great sports career: “It will definitely be one of my last big events nisse – that much is already certain for me.”
