Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration, a compilation of over 90 games, including 6 originals for Atari’s 50th anniversary

Atari was officially founded on June 27, 1972, and is therefore celebrating its 50th anniversary this week. Several initiatives were unveiled on this occasion, including a logo to celebrate this half-century, and now a compilation called Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebrationwhich won’t just stack past games.

She will understand 90 retro gamesof course, but above all of the Interactive Timelineswhich will invite us to retrace the history of the publisher through “interviews with designers, developers, and industry leaders, documentary footage, product design documents, and high-resolution original artwork.” More than 60 minutes of interviews with important creators like Cliff Bleszinski were also recorded for the occasion.

The experience created by Digital Eclipse will bring together titles from several platforms, namely arcade machines, 8-bit computers, and the Atari 2600, 5200, 7800, Lynx and Jaguar. And she’ll totally understand some stamped exclusives Reimagined (in line with versions Recharged of Breakout, Gravitate, Asteroids, Black Widow, Centipede and Missile Command).

Swordquest: Air World will thus be a fourth and last episode of the saga, taking up the concepts of the canceled project of Tod Frye, Haunted Houses will be a voxel sequence of survival horror haunted house, VCTR-SCTR a tribute to the vector games of the time Asteroids, Tempest and consorts, Neo Breakout a re-reading of the cult brick-breaking series, Quadratank a sequel to the franchise Tank with 4-player team or individual multiplayer modes, and Yars’ Revenge Reimagined a remake of shoot ’em up from 1981, directed by Mike Mika, director of the 1999 GameBoy port currently at the helm of Digital Eclipse.

Apart from these 6 games Reimagined originals, the list of retro experiences is not yet known, but several of them are visible in video and images. Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration doesn’t have a release date yet, but it will be available this winter on PC via SteamPS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and Switch for €39.99.
