A decade and a half after her debut in the Ski World Cup, Lara Gut-Behrami is still one of the very best. The separation between everyday work and private life is good for the now two-time athlete of the year.

Lara Gut-Behrami was also reliable last winter. 15 years after her debut at the highest level, she once again caused many success stories. She won three World Cup races and secured six more podium places in her three disciplines: giant slalom, super-G and downhill. Her consistency earned her second place in the overall World Cup ranking behind the superior American Mikaela Shiffrin and the small crystal ball as a trophy for the best Super-G rider.

Despite the many highs, the season was not without exception good. On the other hand, the results at the World Championships in Méribel that corresponded to (our own) expectations were lacking. The ranks 4 in the giant slalom, 6 in the super-G and 9 in the downhill were not to Gut-Behrami’s taste. The woman from Ticino did not want to hide her disappointment after the two “lost weeks”. Fortunately, ambition also has its place in the Ticino woman’s new, more balanced life.

Satisfaction is not just about success

This “new life” is characterized by the clear demarcation between everyday sporting activities and the peace and seclusion of the private sphere. The times when Gut-Behrami struggled in her role as a woman of public interest are over.

The doggedness and with it the hunt for victories and titles as the only worthwhile goal has given way to a pleasant relaxedness. Gut-Behrami no longer makes her satisfaction solely dependent on success. It now also puts other values in the foreground and has also arrived off the racing slopes. She is Female Athlete of the Year for the second time in seven years.
