Athletics – state championships marked by strong comebacks

The young Salzburg athletics aces celebrated a sensational return at the national championships in Rif. Limits for U20 European Championship are the focus.

The limits for the U20 European Championships are currently the top priority for the Salzburg youth athletics team. These have to be fixed in Rif (Austrian junior championships) and Bregenz (state championships) in the coming weeks. They have already “behind” the state championships. These were characterized by strong comebacks: Anna Buchner expected a long break in January after cruciate ligament surgery – it was faster! The 17-year-old won gold in the discus throw (34.32 m), silver in the shot put, Nina Lorenz won (10.97 m). Katharina Stöger also managed the big throw after surviving an injury (plantar fascitis). She celebrated gold in the 400m (58.05 seconds, personal best), 800m, 1500m and 100m relay. Gold in the long jump went to Inge Grünwald (5.89 m), in the pole vault to Shanna Tureczek (3.83 m). Lukas Stiper – a year abroad in the USA is coming up – showed up for the men. He won with the discus (48.60 m), came second in the shot put (behind Paul Prechtl) and in the javelin throw. Jakob Grubmüller won this with 54.36 m.
