Atlas Fallen: We’ve seen it, first info on Deck 13’s new action-RPG


After a The Surge 2 excellent, the studio Deck 13 surely wanted to move on, and it’s done with Atlas Fallen. The app, action and RPG oriented, will take you to a world where the sand will be your brother in arms. This Gamescom 2022 allowed us to see a little more than 20 minutes of gameplay on site, and thus give you the first info about it.

The sand will be your best friend

The first element very important in Atlas Fallen will be the sand. Indeed, the world ofAtlas Fallen was ravaged by the god of the sun, and the sand will thus be omnipresent in the title of Deck 13. In addition, the protagonist will have three separate weapons to use via his gauntlet. These will be the only three weapons that our character will have throughout the game, and these will have strengths and weaknesses. However, these will of course be upgradeable, via sand essence or even various crystals, to be found all over the world map.

Regarding the combat system, Deck 13 still retained some elements of The Surge. This won’t be the party souls-like, but rather the possibility of targeting the different parts of the body, in order to recover precious fragments on the various creatures to face. Another interesting point about this Atlas Fallenthe game will also be playable in cooperation with up to two players online. Either a first in the productions of Deck 13 but know that this cooperation mode will only be a significant plus, the title being above all cut for the solo. In any case, playing it with another player should already be more exciting, provided that the difficulty is truly sculpted for two.

And like any action-RPG, or almost, there will be a crafting part. We haven’t actually seen it, but there will be. This will allow in particular improve or acquire different equipment, or even improve your three weapons. On the gameplay also, we could see some nice combos to perform on the different creatures, and these will obviously have a life bar, with a level of danger displayed. It all sounded classic, but effective in practice.

Very far from a Souls, closer to a Horizon or God of War

That said, the title seemed to us quite far from being a Souls-like and the developers do not hide it, given that they want to get a little closer to a god of war, even Horizon. Indeed, it will be rather oriented semi open-world, with no less than 5 regions to visit. Some will be relatively small, others a bit larger in terms of playing field. god of war Where Horizonthe software will obviously have some side activities. From statues of the sun god to different shards to pick up, we can say that the title should not lack secondary activities to carry out.

As for progress, Atlas Fallen will also be somewhat in the vein of a Horizon. Indeed, it turns out that our hero will be able to gain new skills over the course of the game. In other words, and in particular by defeating a few bosses, our character will therefore be able to acquire new powers, and thus progress in other previously inaccessible areas, almost like a metroidvania. For example, we were able to see that it was possible to raise a structure buried in the sand, and use it as a platform to advance to the next area.

In terms of lifespan, Atlas Fallen should also be able to hold their breath. The developer present on site said that to finish the title, it will take 15 hours in a straight line, and possibly 25/30 hours to aim for 100%. Either a lifetime clearly in the nails of what is usually done. Especially since we will of course have some interactions with NPCs, and therefore primary or secondary missions to perform. Overall, we have to admit thatAtlas Fallen should be complete.

The technical aspect ofAtlas Fallen didn’t seem left out. Probably based on the graphics engine of The Surge 2, it is clear that the title was able to impress during the presentation. Most of the panoramas didn’t really have to be ashamed compared to current standards, and the software already seemed to us to be well finished in a lot of aspects, even if there is still work to be done. Concretely, the title looked pretty to us graphically as artistically, and we are already looking forward to seeing much more.

We end with the bestiary. During the presentation, we have been told that there will be different kinds of creatures to face, including some that could grow to three times our size. Instinctively, we necessarily think of bosses, and we hope that they will be really gargantuan as interesting to face.

Overall, that’s all there is to know about this Atlas Fallen, which promises to be an action-RPG full of promise, and above all convincing for the moment even if we expect to see much more. Production Deck 13 will be released on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on a date yet unknown.
