The threat of AI

After The Creator, a new science fiction film presents artificial intelligence as a great threat. In Atlas, Jennifer Lopez plays Atlas Shepherd, a brilliant yet surly data analyst who is extremely suspicious of this technology. But when the mission to capture a rebel AI to which she is mysteriously linked turns into a disaster, she resolves to join forces with another AI to save the world.

Looking at the trailer below, this film by Brad Peyton (San Andreas, Rampage) is not going to pull any punches, both visually and in terms of the story. We can already see an outcome coming miles away where Jennifer Lopez’s character finally begins to think that not all AI is fundamentally bad.

After the saga Rebel Moonit therefore seems that Netflix continues to focus on productions that focus more on explosions than on narration.

While we mainly saw her in romantic comedies in the 2000s, Jennifer Lopez is increasingly starring in action films or feature films that allow her to play strong leads.

Following the series Shades of Blue (2016-2018) and films Queens (2019) and The Mother (2023), the singer/actress also plans to play the famous drug lord Griselda Blanco in a biopic titled The Godmother. The status of this film announced in 2019, however, remains unknown, especially since Netflix produced a series on the same subject, with Sofia Vergara in the lead, released in early 2024.
