Atle Lie McGrath wins the night slalom in Flachau

The 21-year-old Norwegian celebrates his first World Cup victory. The Swiss Yule shows two strong runs and makes it onto the podium.

(sda) Atle Lie McGrath won the penultimate World Cup slalom of the winter in Flachau. The 21-year-old Norwegian prevailed 0.29 seconds ahead of the French slalom Olympic champion Clément Noël.

Daniel Yule, who placed third, was the best Swiss in night slalom in Austria. The Valais lost 0.64 seconds to McGrath, who triumphed for the first time in the World Cup after three previous podium finishes. Yule was better classified this winter only as second in Wengen.

In addition to Yule, there were World Cup points in Flachau for the other Swiss Luca Aerni (10th), Loïc Meillard (17th), Ramon Zenhäusler (21st), Tanguy Nef (22nd) and Marc Rochat (26th).

In the fight for victory in the discipline ranking, the Norwegian Henrik Kristoffersen – although only 16th in Flachau – is still in the lead with 371 points, well ahead of his closest pursuer and compatriot Lucas Braathen (323 points). The last slalom of the season will take place on March 20th at the World Cup finals in Méribel.
