Tory MP dies after knife attack

A MP for the Conservative ruling party in the UK has reportedly died after a knife attack. The victim is 69-year-old David Amess. The alleged attacker is arrested by the police. A weapon is also secured.

A MP for the Conservative ruling party in the UK has reportedly been the victim of a fatal knife attack. As the news broadcaster Sky News reported, an attacker stabbed 69-year-old David Amess several times in his constituency in Essex during a citizens’ clinic. “He was treated by the emergency services, but unfortunately died on the scene,” the report quoted a police spokesman as saying.

The alleged attacker, a 25-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of murder. A knife was found with him. “He is currently in custody,” said the police. No further suspects are sought.

Condolences for Amess have already come from several sides. Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s wife Carrie Johnson wrote on Twitter: “Absolutely terrible news about Sir David Amess. He was tremendously kind and good. A huge animal lover and a true gentleman. That is so unjust. Thoughts are with his wife and his Children. ”

The case is reminiscent of the murder of Labor MP Jo Cox in 2016. Cox was also attacked by a right-wing extremist during a public consultation in her constituency and died of her injuries. The murder happened just weeks before the Brexit referendum.
