QWho is the “backpack man”? On the amateur videos that quickly circulated after the knife attack in a park in Annecy on Thursday June 8, many people noticed this young man, with a hiking bag on his back, who confronted the attacking while protecting himself with a second backpack. He did not hesitate to chase the man with the knife and managed to get him away from the playground where he had already injured several people. In addition to highlighting his courage, some Internet users have identified him.

This young man is called Henri, he is 24 years old. For two months, he embarked on a tour of the cathedrals of France, on foot and hitchhiking. This is what brought him to Annecy. A graduate in philosophy and international management, he defines himself as a “lover of cathedrals”. On his Instagram account “The song of the cathedrals”, he recounts his daily journey. “I decided to stay with the locals by knocking on the doors of the places where I am. It’s about living the adventure to the full,” he told the Dauphine ten days before the attack.

Lots of thank you messages

Henri’s intervention against the aggressor did not go unnoticed. The Annecy prosecutor mentioned the courageous young man during her press conference on Thursday. Internet users quickly found him the nickname of “the man with the backpacks”. On his Instagram account, Henri thanked all those who had sent him “messages of support”: “I am thinking particularly of the victims and their parents. I hope they make it through,” he wrote.
