While an investigation by the Russian authorities is still underway into the armed attack which cost the lives of at least 137 people in a concert hall in the suburbs of Moscow, Emmanuel Macron, traveling in Guyana, proposed Russia “increased cooperation” in the fight against the Islamic State, which claimed responsibility for the attack.

Currently traveling in Guyana, Emmanuel Macron commented on the armed attack which took place Friday evening in Russia, in a concert hall in the suburbs of Moscow. While the death toll rises and now stands at 137 dead, Russian authorities refuse to mention the Islamic State trail. Four men, suspected perpetrators of the attack, were arrested on Saturday by Russian authorities.

The branch of the Islamic State jihadist group “involved” in the attack “had carried out several attempts in recent months” on French “soil”, Emmanuel Macron declared this Monday, after raising the Vigipirate plan to its maximum level.

“Increased cooperation”

“We have offered the Russian services, as well as our partners in the region, increased cooperation,” said the French president upon his arrival in Guyana. “We must guard against any instrumentalization or distortion, but be demanding and effective. It is in this spirit that we are moving forward and I hope that Russia will do the same,” he added to the press while Vladimir Putin pointed out Ukraine’s responsibility.

“The investigation is ongoing and the presidential administration would be wrong to comment on the progress of the investigation. We will not do so,” assured Dmitri Peskov, the Russian president’s spokesperson. Friday’s massacre left at least 137 dead in a concert hall in the suburbs of Moscow, the deadliest attack on European soil claimed by IS.
