In Puteaux, in the neighborhood where the parents of the terrorist who killed a German tourist on Saturday December 2 reside, near the Eiffel Tower, incomprehension reigns in the heads of the residents. A neighbor of the parents recalled certain memories she had of this man at the microphone of Europe 1.

A German tourist was killed and two other people were injured this Saturday, December 2, in a knife and hammer attack near the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Europe 1 went to Puteaux, in the Paris suburbs, in a very quiet area, in the area where the terrorist’s parents live.

“They are very good people”

General incomprehension is the predominant feeling there. In this very quiet residential area, located at the foot of the La Défense skyscrapers, you have to imagine three blocks of buildings from the 1970s facing each other with, in the middle, a small children’s play area. The majority of residents are families or retirees. In the building where the terrorist’s relatives live, everyone talks about a shy boy, with sometimes strange behavior, unlike his family: perfectly integrated people according to a neighbor who preferred to remain anonymous.

“They are very good people and I had a very good relationship with them. They are very kind. When I was sick, they came to ask me if I needed help. They reached out to me. hand”, declared the neighbor at the microphone of Europe 1.

“It’s a gentleman who is sick”

He doesn’t live here, she continues, talking about the author of the attack. She hadn’t seen him often, but she knew he suffered from psychiatric disorders. “I knew there was a problem with the son. He’s a man who is sick, who should be locked up. The poor German tourist, who got killed like that, faced a guy who wouldn’t have didn’t have to leave the hospital,” she added. Even if his action surprised everyone in the neighborhood, some neighbors said they did not feel reassured when he came to visit his parents, especially since his incarceration in 2016 for a planned terrorist attack.
