The Israeli military killed a Palestinian man who seriously injured a soldier in a car-ramming attack in the occupied West Bank on Wednesday, a day after Israel’s legislative elections, officials said. The army said in a short statement that an assailant arrived in his vehicle at the Maccabim checkpoint in the western West Bank near the Israeli town of Modiin and “rolled over a soldier“.
According to an AFP photographer on the spot, the checkpoint targeted was that of Bell, and not that of Maccabim, located nearby. Questioned by AFP, the Israeli army indicated that the targeted checkpoint was that of Bell and not that of Maccabim as written in its press release. “The assailant got out of his vehicle to attack the officer with an ax, who fired at the assailant and neutralized him“Said the army, without further details on his condition. “The officer was seriously injured and was taken to hospital“, she added.
