The two men were shot dead on Tuesday by an armed commando, who intercepted their convoy carrying a repeat offender, Mohamed Amra, at the Incarville tollbooth. Three other prison officers were seriously injured in the ambush.
The fugitive and his accomplices have since been sought throughout the country by 350 investigators. The hunt is also organized across borders, with a “red notice” issued by Interpol at the request of the French authorities to locate the escaped detainee.
