Despite the long-standing threat of a major escalation in the conflict with Hezbollah, Israel kills a Hamas commander in Lebanon. The terrorist militia now reports a revenge attack on a target that is in its direct focus for the first time.
In response to the killing of a Hamas commander in southern Lebanon, the Lebanese Hezbollah militia says it has launched a drone attack on a military base in northern Israel. Hezbollah fighters fired “squadrons of explosive-laden drones” at the Mitschwe Alon military base near the city of Safed in Galilee, Hezbollah said. This was a “response to the attack and killing by the Israeli enemy in the city of Sidon.” It was “the first time” that Hezbollah had attacked this military base, the press office of the pro-Iranian Hezbollah said.
On Friday, Hamas commander Samer al-Hajj was killed in an Israeli attack on a vehicle in Sidon in southern Lebanon. The radical Islamic Palestinian organization Hamas said its “commander” al-Hajj was killed “in a Zionist attack.” The Israeli army, for its part, announced that its fighter jets had attacked the area around Sidon and “eliminated” the “senior commander” of Hamas in Lebanon.
It was the first attack of this kind in Sidon, southern Lebanon. Since the Gaza war began on October 7, there have been repeated clashes between the Israeli army and the Iranian-backed militia on the border between Israel and Lebanon. Since then, at least 562 people have been killed in Lebanon, including at least 116 civilians. According to the army, 22 soldiers and 26 civilians were killed on the Israeli side.
