A 15-year-old fatally injured an Orthodox Jew with a stabbing weapon in the city of Zurich on Saturday evening.
The police arrested the suspect on site, as they announced on Sunday night.
The injured 50-year-old man had to be taken to hospital.
It was said that the ongoing investigations would explicitly include the possibility of an anti-Semitic crime.
The background and the course of events were unclear at the time of the announcement. The attack occurred in Zurich District 2 in the Engequartier. At 9:35 p.m., the operations center received a report of a dispute between several people.
The Zurich cantonal police and the responsible youth attorney’s office investigated in all directions. The Zurich city police announced further information for Sunday morning.
Incidents of anti-Semitism have increased in Switzerland since the Hamas attack in Israel in October 2023 and the war in the Middle East.
