The Ukrainian Air Force claims to have destroyed the Russian landing ship Novocherkassk. But another Moscow ship is apparently affected in the attack on the port of Feodosiya.
Another Russian Navy ship was apparently badly hit in the Ukrainian air strike on the landing ship “Novocherkassk” in the port of the city of Feodosiya in Crimea. The US-funded broadcaster Radio Liberty reports, citing current satellite images from December 26th, that the training ship UTS-150 was partially sunk. Accordingly, the training ship anchored not far from the “Novocherkassk”.
The Ukrainian Air Force said it hit and destroyed the Novocherkassk with cruise missiles on Tuesday. Photos and videos of a large explosion could be seen on social networks. The Russian Defense Ministry confirmed the attack, but only spoke of damage to the ship without giving further details. According to officially unconfirmed reports, the “Novocherkassk” is said to have been loaded with combat drones and other ammunition.
One person was killed in the “enemy attack,” said Moscow-appointed Crimean occupation chief Sergei Aksyonov. There are also two injured. The information cannot be verified. Meanwhile, Ukrainian Navy spokesman Dmytro Pletenchuk said there could have been around 80 people on the Novocherkassk at the time of the attack. “Such ships usually do not remain without a crew in port,” says Pletenchuk.
A few hours after the attack, Russia is said to have withdrawn two ships from the Bay of Feodosiya. This was reported by Radio Liberty citing on a photo. However, due to the long distance and visibility conditions, it was not possible to identify the ships. Judging by its size, it may be a warship and a military boat, according to the broadcaster.
According to Ukrainian information, eleven Russian ships have been sunk since the start of the war. The sinking of the “Moskva”, the flagship of the Black Sea Fleet, last year attracted particular attention.
