Attal: Orpea will have to be sanctioned if the accusations against the group are proven

PARIS (Agefi-Dow Jones)–Government spokesman Gabriel Attal on Wednesday raised the possibility of sanctioning the operator of retirement homes Orpea if the accusations against the company were proven. The management of the group has been questioned in a book-investigation entitled “Les Fossoyeurs”.

“The revelations that have been made in this book are absolutely shocking […] if these facts are proven, they will obviously have to be sanctioned with the greatest severity”, declared the member of the government during a press point.

The company denied the accusations made against it in the book and called on its lawyers.

“At the request of Olivier Véran [le ministre de la Santé, NDLR], the CEO of Orpea was summoned by the Minister Delegate for Autonomy, Brigitte Bourguignon” who will meet with him “as soon as possible”, also indicated Gabriel Attal.

The government also asked the Île-de-France Regional Health Agency (ARS) “their last unannounced control report on” the Ile-de-France establishment implicated in the book “and the follow-up that had been given to this report,” continued the government spokesman.

“We plan, on the basis of this meeting with the general manager of Orpea and the feedback we will have from the Regional Health Agency on this control and on this report, to launch an independent inspection mission by the ‘General Inspectorate of Social Affairs for the entire Orpea group’, also indicated Gabriel Attal.
