Attempted satire turns into scandal: Boris Palmer calls Aogo a “bad racist”

Attempted satire becomes a scandal
Boris Palmer calls Aogo a “bad racist”

Boris Palmer joins the debate about Jens Lehmann and Dennis Aogo. The two have become victims of the Cancel Culture, says Tübingen’s mayor. When he was accused of relativizing racism in the comment column, he responded with a racist statement that made many people shake their heads in disbelief.

Tübingen’s mayor Boris Palmer has provoked a shitstorm with an announcement. However, it turns out to be more violent than was expected of himself. On Friday lunchtime the Green politician posted a link to an article on his Facebook page, which reports on Dennis Aogo’s temporary exit as a Sky expert due to a verbal misstep. According to his own admission, Palmer doesn’t watch football, but at Cancel Culture he picks up his ears: “The furor with which storms on the Internet can destroy livelihoods is getting worse and worse,” he writes. He does not want to live in such a “language job”.

Such provocations are not uncommon for Palmer, which led a member of the “Green Youth” to comment that he probably wanted to “put racism into perspective again”. Palmer got into the discussion – and posted a sentence at which many readers rubbed their eyes in disbelief: “the aogo is a bad racist. Has offered women his n * -tail”.

Palmer later provided the explanation for the derailment in a further comment. With the “stylistic device of irony (to declare a black man a racist)” he counteracts “absurd provocations”. The rest of the sentence is a quote.

Said quote recently appeared as a screenshot in the comments under a Facebook post from Aogo and spread over social media. One user accuses the former professional footballer of suggesting during his time at HSV to her friend on the beach in Mallorca to “treat yourself to a big N * tail”. This statement cannot be verified, the original comment has disappeared and the user’s Facebook profile cannot be found either.

Palmer doesn’t back an inch

So Palmer posted a screenshot showing unchecked allegations. And he used a racist quote without marking it as a quote. The green mayor cannot see a mistake in this: it is a matter of “crystal clear satire” with which he counteracts the “always the same accusations of racism” by “self-righteous lifestyle links”.

Palmer is surprised that there is a lot going on in the comment column under his post: “In which forums did agent provocateur R. [der Verfasser des “Rassismus relativieren”-Kommentars, Anm. d. R.] that now spreads that you are all running into nowhere of a completely off-the-wall thread? “Palmer is followed by almost 70,000 users on Facebook, his profile is publicly accessible. The media-savvy politician should not be surprised that his statements there are not private.

In the meantime, his attempt at satire has long been discussed outside of Facebook. The writes on Twitter SPD chairman Saskia Esken, addressed to the Greens leader Annalena Baerbock, among others: “My first question would be: Has your account been hacked?”. Many members and supporters of the Greens are calling for Palmer to be expelled from the party. The party itself has not yet commented on the cause. An official statement should be made According to the “Spiegel” journalist Jonas Schaible probably follow tomorrow morning.
