Last month, Google unveiled Circle to Search on select Android smartphones. Enough to allow users to carry out searches on Google by long-pressing the home button and circling or touching a subject on their screen.
Looks pretty cool, right? Microsoft thinks so too. He is working on his own version of this feature.
As spotted by WindowsReport, Microsoft has added a new mouse gesture feature called “Circle to Copilot” to the Canary version of the Edge browser.
On browser and no longer on mobile device
Edge Canary is a daily updated preview channel that allows users to be the first to experience Edge updates.
As the feature’s name suggests, it should work similarly to Google’s version, with users using their mouse to circle any element in their browser. Copilot, Microsoft’s AI assistant, will then search for the highlighted topic and provide relevant information.
The main difference is that Microsoft’s version is for browsers, while Google’s is for mobile devices. However, the name and functionality are quite similar.
To be discovered first on smartphone
Even in Canary, the function is not yet operational and the company has yet to officially announce it. However, spotting this setting suggests that Microsoft is currently working on the feature, and it may be something you see soon.
To be the first to experience the feature when it becomes available, you can download Edge Canary and check the latest version regularly.
Although the Microsoft version is not yet available, you can enjoy the Google version on mobile if you own a Samsung Galaxy S24 series smartphone, including the S24, S24 Plus and S24 Ultra, or the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro.
