You may receive an SMS asking you to “update” your vital card. Mistrust…

Indeed, it is actually yet another scam, aimed at stealing a few euros from you.

The vital card scam, again and again…

For a few months now, many French people have been likely to receive an SMS inviting them to update their precious vital card. The SMS in question is accompanied by a link, which redirects the user (or rather the victim) to a website imitating that of the Health Insurance.

The scam generally offers the victim to receive a new vital card, asking him to fill in his contact details on the website. He is then asked to pay the shipping costs by credit card, the latter generally amounting to a few tens of cents. From then on, the cybercriminals recover the victim’s bank details, and can carry out various transactions.

Note that another similar scam is currently circulating, and starts with the receipt of a message (via email or SMS) which seems to come from Health Insurance / Ameli. This message announces a pending refund, and asks the victim to confirm or update their personal information. Here again, the victim is quickly invited to enter his banking information… the rest, you know it. Caution is therefore called for.
