Attractions in Saarland: Top 10 best excursion tips

You can visit many sights in the smallest of federal states in a very small area. First, we present the three top attractions that are worth a visit.

  • Saar loop – The main attraction of the state will remain unforgettable after your visit. You have the opportunity to visit the Saarschleife from a viewpoint called Cloef or climb the treetop path. The view is breathtakingly beautiful.

  • Voelklingen hut – It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and combines three things in a unique way: science about the world of iron, concerts and exhibitions as well as industrial culture to touch. There are unusual plants in the nearby "Paradies" landscape garden, and experiment stations are waiting for you in the ScienceCenter Ferrodrom.

  • Saarpolygon – After mining in Saarland made history in 2012, the Saarpolygon takes up centuries of coal mining. At a height of 30 m you will experience a walk-in monument that is second to none.   • The Roman Villa Borg offers a world-class attraction. It is located in the Moselle community of Perl. The ancient villa complex has been completely reconstructed and shows the gatehouse, Roman bath, manor house, latrine, a Roman kitchen and a Roman garden.   • Cities – If you fancy a stroll through the city, you can be enchanted by a French charm in Saarland towns. The proximity to France can be felt and experienced at all corners. Saarbrücken is modern and at the same time the capital of the country. In addition to a worthwhile visit to the city, Mettlach also offers the opportunity to visit the Saar Loop.

  • Historical buildings – In Saarland, numerous artists from different eras have left their stone testimonies. Sometimes you will find it extensively restored, sometimes in its original condition. You can visit the Celtic ring wall in Otzenhausen, freely accessible and free of charge. Kirkel Castle enables you to jump into the time of the knights.

  • Amusement parks – Here you can have fun with the whole family. In the Saar Adventure Park you will find climbing fun in tree tops on the edge of the Saarbrücken city forest. You can swim and sail at Bostalsee. There is a long summer toboggan run and many trampolines in the Peterberg leisure center. The playgrounds are even free to visit here.
